Yoga is Writing//Writing is Yoga w/ Nick Jaina and Stelth Ulvang

Join us for a flow yoga session accompanied by live music, where we emphasize the archetypes of certain poses. While you do your practice, take note of the emotions unlocked by the poses and how they correlate with the forms you are embodying, how you find your position not just by adjusting your hands and feet a certain amount, but by connecting with the idea of a warrior, or a bow, or a certain animal. The yoga will be followed by an hour of writing discussion and practice, where we will connect the emotions in our bodies with language. The aim of this workshop is to aid in self-discovery and using writing as a practice, like yoga, that is yours and does not need to be compared to others. Often writing is thought of as a purely intellectual pursuit, but most inspiration comes from the slower brain wave functioning we experience during in-between moments, like driving, showering, or yoga. If we can be conscious about that space, we can better harness this kind of inspiration.

 

You do not need to be a writer, just interested in writing as self-discovery and personal practice in the same way that yoga can be.

 

Bring a journal, pen and snack. Bananas are good.

Join us for a beginner's workshop this Sunday!  We will cover breathing techniques, foundational postures, how to link postures together, and how to modify postures uniquely to your body.  You will leave with an understanding of basic yoga techniques, as well as the confidence needed to attend a scheduled group class.

Think part meditation, part listening session-The sonic waves wash over you, rippling on your skin and penetrating your pores until they’re scrubbing your mind of the stress-worry-striving dirt that builds up day after day.  Participants lay on a mat with pillows and blankets while the facilitator creates a soundscape using various instruments.  You will feel a sense of release while being supported by the vibrations around you, leaving you fully relaxed and renewed.
